Executive Director, Solar Tech
Doug Payne is co-founder and Executive Director of SolarTech, an industry consortium launched in early 2006 with a vision towards creating a Solar Industry “Center of Excellence”. The organization now represents over 85 Silicon Valley renewable energy companies with regional, state, national, and worldwide business interests. This Silicon Valley Leadership Group Initiative provides innovative expertise, accelerating local solar markets by removing barriers, ensuring a long term, sustainable solar industry.
Prior to being appointed as SolarTech’s first Executive Director, in early 2006 Doug joined Real Goods Solar to lead the Commercial Business Development Division serving Northern and Central California. During his tenure, successfully grew Real Goods Commercial Solar Business 400% year over year, culminating Jan 2009 in a 3.65MW / $32M school district project, believed to be the single largest direct purchase of carport solar PV in California. His professional background consists of leadership tenures in Manufacturing, Process Engineering, and Product Commercialization Methodologies. From 1995-2005 he led numerous teams focusing on product introduction best practices, program development, and product introduction roadmaps at KLA-Tencor in 1995, one of the world’s largest semi-conductor equipment manufacturing companies.
